What a vCard (.vcf) file is
A vCard is the universal file format for digital business cards. Files ending in .vcf contain a single contact’s details — name, phone numbers, email, company, address and more — in a small, plain-text structure that virtually every device understands. When you receive a contact as an attachment in email or messaging, or scan a contact QR code, you are almost always handling a vCard. Because the format is an open standard (RFC 6350), a .vcf created here imports the same way into the iPhone Contacts app, Android, Microsoft Outlook, Google Contacts and most CRMs.
This generator writes a clean vCard 3.0 file, the version with the widest compatibility. You fill in the fields you have, and it assembles the correct BEGIN:VCARD / END:VCARD block with properly labelled phone, email and address properties.
How to create your contact file
- Enter the contact’s name — at minimum a first or last name so the card has a display label.
- Add any phone numbers, email, company, job title and website you have. Empty fields are simply left out.
- Fill in the address parts if you want a mailing address on the card.
- Watch the live .vcf preview on the right update as you type.
- Press Download .vcf to save the file, then open it on any device to add the contact, or attach it to an email or QR code.
Where vCards are useful
- Email signatures — attach your
.vcfso recipients can save you with one tap. - QR business cards — encode the vCard text in a QR code so people scan and save instantly.
- Event and conference badges — share contact details without typing.
- Bulk onboarding — distribute a team directory as individual contact files.
Frequently asked questions
Will this file work on both iPhone and Android?
Yes. vCard 3.0 is supported natively by iOS, Android, macOS, Windows and Google Contacts. Open the downloaded .vcf on the device and it will offer to add the contact.
Can I include more than one phone number?
Yes. This tool supports a mobile and a work number, each labelled with the correct vCard type (CELL and WORK) so phones file them properly.
How do I turn it into a QR code?
Copy the generated vCard text and paste it into a QR generator such as our QR Code Designer. Scanning the resulting code lets anyone save the contact instantly.
Is my contact data uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is assembled in JavaScript and downloaded using an in-browser Blob. Nothing you enter leaves your device, which makes the tool safe for personal and client contact details.
