What Age Calculator Does and Why It Matters

Age Calculator takes a birthdate and compares it with today's date on your device, then works out the exact difference between them in years, months, and days, rather than the rough "years only" figure most people do in their head. The calculation runs in your browser using the actual calendar — it accounts for how many days are in each month between the two dates and for leap years — so it stays correct for people born on February 29, near month boundaries, or a long time ago, cases where a quick mental subtraction usually gets the months or days wrong.

The exact figure matters in situations where "years only" isn't precise enough: confirming someone meets an age threshold for a form, benefit, or eligibility rule that's expressed in years and months; working out how much time is actually left until a birthday, anniversary, or age-based deadline; or just settling the everyday question of exactly how old someone is down to the day. The calculation runs locally in your browser when you press Calculate Age, and the birthdate never leaves your device.

How to Use Age Calculator

  1. Open the date field and pick the birthdate (or starting date) you want to measure from.
  2. The result — years, months, and days — updates as soon as a valid date is selected.
  3. Check the extra details shown alongside the main figure: day of the week born and the countdown to the next birthday.
  4. Pick a different date to recalculate; there's no need to reload the page or clear anything between calculations.

How the Calculation Works

What it accounts for

  • Calendar-accurate month lengths (28, 29, 30, or 31 days), not a flat 30-day assumption
  • Leap years, including birthdates of February 29
  • Past dates only: the birthdate field will not accept a date after today on your device

What it assumes

  • Both dates use your device's local calendar, not a specific timezone or historical calendar system
  • The comparison is calendar-based (Gregorian), which covers virtually all everyday use

When to double-check elsewhere

  • Legal age thresholds that use a specific jurisdiction's counting rule (some count the day before a birthday as the day someone "turns" an age)
  • Historical dates recorded in a non-Gregorian calendar

Privacy and Security

The date you enter is used only to compute the result shown on the page — it's processed in your browser and isn't uploaded, logged, or stored anywhere. You can close the tab afterward with nothing left behind.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the month/day count differ slightly from what I calculated by hand?

Manual "years and months" subtraction usually assumes every month is 30 days, which drifts by a few days depending on which months fall in the range. This tool counts actual calendar days between the two real dates, so it's more accurate, not less — if the numbers differ, this is the correct one.

Does it handle someone born on February 29?

Yes. Leap-year birthdates are calculated the same way as any other date; the age in years still increases every year even though the calendar date only recurs every four years.

Can I use this for a legal or eligibility age check?

It gives you the correct calendar age, which is the right starting point, but some legal rules count the qualifying age from the day before the birthday rather than the birthday itself. For anything where that distinction has real consequences, confirm the exact counting rule that applies in your jurisdiction.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the age calculation?

The years/months/days breakdown uses your device's local calendar and accounts for varying month lengths and leap years. Total days are counted as whole calendar days, so daylight-saving changes do not shift the result. Total hours are simply those calendar days multiplied by 24, not elapsed civil hours. For a 29 February birthdate, a non-leap year anniversary is treated as 1 March.

Does this tool store my birthdate?

No. All calculations happen locally in your browser. Your birthdate is never transmitted to our servers or stored anywhere.

How are the fun facts calculated?

The fun facts are rough estimates based on average human statistics. For example, average heart rate is about 80 beats per minute, and average sleep is about 8 hours per day.

Can I calculate age for any date?

Yes, you can enter any past date to calculate the time elapsed. However, you cannot enter future dates as the calculator is designed to determine age from a birthdate.

How is the zodiac sign determined?

The zodiac sign is determined based on standard astrological date ranges for each sign, from Aries (March 21 - April 19) to Pisces (February 19 - March 20).
